"See My Dunya: See My World" was an exhibition that explored the Somali-British experience, focusing on the faces, stories, and dreams of the Somali-Mancunian community. The exhibition aimed to provide a platform for the underrepresented Somali community in Manchester, showcasing their diversity and cultural richness. It had a significant positive impact on the community, raising awareness and creating a space for dialogue.
Following the success of the London Design Biennale, we were invited to exhibit our work in Manchester, a city that holds personal significance as it is where our initiative started. The exhibition, "See My Dunya: See My World," spotlighted the often-overlooked Somali-British experience, highlighting the stories, images, sounds, and cultural elements of the Somali-Mancunian community. The project was an experimental, grassroots initiative designed to carve out a space for the Somali community to be heard and seen. It was a local effort to amplify voices that are typically underrepresented in mainstream narratives. The exhibition proved to be a success, having a positive impact on the Somali community in Manchester by giving them a platform to share their stories and raising awareness of their experiences. The exhibition not only fostered greater understanding of Somali culture but also became a source of pride and inspiration for the community. We are proud of the exhibition's impact and are hopeful that it will continue to inspire and promote greater understanding of Somali culture.
