At the Mogadishu Tech Summit, we were invited to present our work and emphasize the importance of architectural heritage. The event brought together a diverse group of Somali tech entrepreneurs, disruptors, and industry professionals, providing an opportunity to connect with participants and showcase the value of preserving Somalia's architectural heritage.
In 2018, we were invited to the Mogadishu Tech Summit, an annual event connecting Somali tech entrepreneurs and professionals. The conference gathers thousands of participants, including software engineers from IBM, data scientists from Google, and food delivery startups in Mogadishu. This event was particularly meaningful for us as it allowed us to return to Mogadishu and witness firsthand the buildings we had been studying for years. Seeing the remains of these historic buildings, such as the old parliament building and the Roman Catholic Church, was a profound experience. These structures, though in ruins, each had a unique story to tell. The visit was a reminder of the resilience of the Somali people, who, despite facing decades of hardship, continue to cherish their country and culture. Presenting our work at the summit was an unforgettable experience, offering hope for the future of Somalia and its cultural preservation.
