Ex National Parliament

The "Casa del Fascio" was originally built to house the local chapter of the National Fascist Party and later became the National Parliament of Somalia. The building, influenced by socialist public architecture, was a two-story brick structure with a tower that overlooked the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. It had a profound impact on the urban layout of the city. After the outbreak of war, the building was severely damaged, and most of its structure was repurposed, with only the tower and parts of the western walls remaining.

Overview

The "Casa del Fascio" was designed with a large, triangular form with clipped corners, occupying a significant portion of its lot and bordered by major streets. Architecturally, the building followed principles of symmetry, with a central axis of symmetry cutting through the tower and extending across the structure. The facades of the building were mirrored, with grand entrances accentuated by stairwells at the façade corners. The North and South entrances featured prominent doorways bordered by bossage and crowned with a stone cornice. Above the doors were rectangular windows with semi-circular pediments. The facades were further punctuated by tall blind windows and other decorative elements.
