Architecture and Cities

The exhibition "Architecture and Cities in the Horn of Africa: A Shared Heritage" focused on the process of decolonizing architectural heritage in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia. The exhibition was curated by MAXXI Architecture with Andrea Mantovano and showcased perspectives from contemporary local and European photographers, architects, and scholars. It provided a platform for reflecting on Somali architectural heritage, raising awareness of its significance, and exploring its place within the broader global architectural discourse.

Overview

As part of the Somali Architecture collective, the exhibition offered an important opportunity to contribute to the ongoing conversation around the preservation and rethinking of the built environment in post-colonial contexts. Participating in the exhibition allowed for the sharing of insights into Somali architectural history, while also engaging with a diverse and thoughtful group of contributors. The experience provided valuable lessons in deepening understanding of architectural heritage and helped foster connections with others passionate about preserving the cultural and architectural legacies of the Horn of Africa. Exhibiting at MAXXI L'Aquila was a significant honor for the collective, offering a chance to reflect on the shared heritage of the region and engage with global architectural discourse.
